Starting school and admission arrangements

It is helpful for forward planning if parents who decide to send their children to our school can let us know as early as possible. Starting school is an important event for you and your child and should be a happy and exciting time. Children attending Burton on the Wolds playgroup visit us in the term before they start school. If your child does not attend Burton playgroup we will encourage you to visit the school.

Burton on the Wolds School offers a school place to children from within our catchment area which includes Burton on the Wolds, Hoton, Walton on the Wolds, Prestwold, Six Hills, Cotes, Hoton Hills and Burton Bandalls. Parents from areas outside the catchment area may be able to send their children to Burton on the Wolds School subject to:

1) The availability of places.

2) Agreement from County Hall following application.

All parents requesting places in Leicestershire must complete an application form whether they are requesting a place for their child in the catchment area school or in another school. These forms are available from school or you can apply online @ www.leics.gov.uk/admissions

Children are normally admitted in the September before their fifth birthday. The local authority policy allows you to defer your child’s starting date by one term. Longer delays may result in your place being withdrawn. The law states that your child must be in full time education at the start of the term following their fifth birthday. Please let the school know if you wish to defer entry.

Parents/carers should contact Leicestershire County Council  to find out more about our admission arrangements.
